Founded in 1996, The United Catholic Church is a Heritage Old Catholic denomination with a faith framed by scripture, the historic creeds, and Early Church tradition. It is conciliar in its functioning and theological self-understanding, synodal in its governance, and apostolic through its multiple lines of succession. In fulfillment of its understood mission as a renewal church, the United Catholic Church encourages and supports non-traditional, experimental, and ecumenical mission outreach designs that are directed toward supporting the spiritual needs of the underserved and unchurched as well as conventional parish structures.
We are a Liminal Church
We walk and serve in the space between.
There are many Christian Churches with well-developed and articulated theologies that that have been received by the Christian church world as being good and acceptable places to worship God. These groups also tend to have buildings with programming to attract people, generation after generation, to their pews. Despite all this, the Unchurched and Underserved who reject those traditional Christian structures and to some degree, its answers, have greatly grown in number since WW2. During times of good, church group spirituality doesn’t tend to hold much attention in their lives. During times of personal or collective crisis this same group tends to take in any answers and and practices that might ‘feel right’ in their search for spiritual solace, but for many those don’t quite satisfy either. This is the community the UCC seeks to serve for Christ, and we seek to serve them where they are, as they are, without judgement, with a valid sacramental faith tradition to help bring them spiritual peace and a healing connection to God through Christ.
